I've also put a zip folder in the course folder. Its called z3420406_NGUYEN_Yen Nhien_EXP3.zip

Folder contains
  • decay.max - this is max file of the decayed Rubin House
  • originalhouse.max - this is the max file of the original Rudin house that i had to remodel
  • FINAL.cry - crysis file
When opening the crysis file, the material may reset. The materials i used for the model is called 'trialM' and the materials i used for the furniture is called 'sofa' and 'bedmaterial'.

Exp 2 - draft and final environment

I was going to use my old terrain from Exp.1 but because it was so big, crysis was lagging a lot and so i had difficulties using it. I decided to do a new terrain environment for Exp.2.

Finally attached the model together in crysis.

Exp 2 - Materials in crysis

CRACKED WINDOW

ROOF - MOLDY BENT CONCRETE

RUSTY BENT STEEL STRUCTURE

CONCRETE BASE - CRACKED CONCRETE

INTERIOR WALLS - MOLDY CRACKED CONCRETE

EXTERIOR WALLS - CRACKED CONCRETE

Problems encountered

  1. multisub/object was used but once i assign the texture in cryengine, it assigns one texture to the whole model. Im sure i did the material ID correctly because when i render in 3ds Max, its totally fine. So instead of exporting the whole model, i have to group the models that have the same material.
  2. Model not showing in crysis. All the other models are fine but there one where it cannot be seen when added in the game. The model shows in the preview tho. I cant snap it to the terrain either.

DECAYED RUDIN HOUSE

Exp 2 - week 6 progress

Exp 2 - week 5 Strategy

NOTION OF DECAY - Strategy statement
  • The natural disaster i am using is earthquake.
  • There will be a tree growing underneath the house. The tree will gradually push the house. The 4 posts supporting the Rudin House will break and the house will slanted to one side. The side that is closer to the ground will have a lot of broken concrete due to the force when it was tipped over. The little basement  underneath the concrete base will be broken in half separating itself to the slab when the house is tilted.
  • Most of the glass will be broken or completely gone due to wind, the forces of the building falling to the side and because the timber frames are no longer durable to support the glass after 100 years.
  • The concrete roof will gradually bend and to show that i will add water inside the bent part of the roof as if its holding rain water.
  • The structure for the Rubin House is steel because it is made out of concrete. A bit of the steel structure will be shown where the concrete is broken. It will be rusty and also broken with the concrete.

Exp 2 - Week 4

MOVIES

  1. 2012

The trailer is intense. I like the editing how it shows different places and people around the globe and how they react to the problem. It also shows how the world ends by nature, not by humans which would really help for this assignment.

  2. VANISHING ON 27th STREET

This movie is pretty much about life with humans. In the trailer when the guy walks out of the building and realises that he's the only one there... it creates this emptiness feel.
  3. PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 2
Not much is shown in this trailer but there a few scenes that are filmed in the jungle. It shows moss grown on the rocks and thick vines dangling down from the trees. I can use this as an inspiration to edit my island.
  4. WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE

    '
Where the wild things are' is a very meaningful story. The little boy creates this little imaginary world where he interacts with friendly creatures. In a way it shows life without people but life with creatures (monsters). This is can used in this assignment. I can have monsters destroying the building.
  5. JUMUNJI

Towards the end of the trailer, it does the house being flood with vines everywhere around the house. This is an idea i can use for my assignment.

SKETCHES

 MODEL PROGRESS

Had to remodel the whole building because it had to many polygons.

Exp 2 - Week 1

Problem: All 3 boxes are showing just one texture and I also have trouble linking the boxes to the dummy.

Barcelona Pavilion

The Barcelona Pavilion was demolished in 1930 and rebuilt 1959. It is built with a steel frame structure and made out of materials such as steel, glass, marble and onyx. The building consists of offset wall places and a low roof plane.

Rudin House

From afar, it looks like a typical house with a triangular roof and a box body. It is constructed with raw concrete and raised up on a platform that overhangs to collect rain water.

House at Bordeaux

House in Bordeaux, Rem Koolhaas / OMA

The design is a complication of 3 houses stacked on one another with a central elevator that moves between each floor level. The top level is cantilevering over the transparent middle level, supported by steel tubes and the back end of the house is supported by a L-shape brace.

EXP1 SUBMISSION

Terrain

Strategy

The letter and number combination for my island is N and 6. I have used 3 strategies to reveal and conceal the letter/number combination. These strategies are shadows, placement of objects and the shape of the terrain. On macro scale, I've created a river flowing through a small section of the terrain create a lower case n and the number 6. In some parts of the terrain I've manipulated the surface in the shape of N and 6. As for micro scale I've used the vegetation and sun to create shadows of 6 objects and shadows of the letter N. I've placed 6 objects grouped together and for the walls of the Chinese house, I've modeled it so that it creates a N and 6 from top view.

5 Recreated scenes (Draft and final)

Scene 1

Scene 2

Scene 3

Scene 4

Scene 5

N6 Scales

At Scene 1: Shadows at 16:39, 07:48 and 08:22 respectively

At scene 2

At scene 4

At scene 3: Shadows created at 16:05 and 15:55 respectively

Scene 5: Shadow created at 07:07

Sketchup models

These are the models i created for my level.
This bridge model is used in the 3rd scene. I originally used a bridge from cryengine3 but the material was weird so i had to create my own.

These Asian inspired models is for the 5th and final scene of my level. The scene is my recreation of the ZhuoZheng garden. Cryengine3 lacked structures that would fit in this asian scene so again i created my own models.

Teleportation Triggers

My terrain is massive and so it's a little hard to get around for those unfamiliar with my island. The triggers allow the users to get to all 5 scenes in a specific order. I added a simple model to the triggers just to identity where they are. The model is inspired by the TV series 'Stargate'.

Trailer

The trailer is about a man who woke up finding himself on an unknown island. He starts exploring the island thinking he's the only one there then releases he's wrong. He encounters obstacles and fights for his life to survive on this mysterious island. He also discovers teleportation devices that lead him to different places making his journey more interesting and challenging.
